Expect good HF propagation when solar wind indications are in the green.
When the solar wind magnetic field Bz component goes south and the solar wind speed increases
beyond 600 kilometers per second, consider going up on VHF for some auroral DX. HF conditions
are likely to be poor on any paths traversing the polar regions. Daytime trans-equatorial
paths may be less affected.

Solar Cycle 24:
The sunspot cycle seems to be off to a slow start,
though the Space Weather Prediction Center
is optimistic - look at the steep red curve in the
sunspot number chart! The sun is presently
alternating between either a few spots, or clean. The
higher HF bands have been pretty barren
as a result.
